The measurements that vary most between male faces

Gonial (jaw) angle. The angle at the back corner of the jaw, averaged left and right. It is the single most discussed male facial measurement online and among the least changeable - it is bone geometry, fixed after adolescence.

Facial width-to-height ratio. Cheekbone width against upper-face height. Research links higher ratios to perceived dominance and, in some studies, to lower perceived trustworthiness. Neither maps cleanly onto attractiveness, which is why the test reports the number without grading it.

Lower-third proportion. The distance from nose base to chin relative to the whole face. A longer lower third reads as a stronger jaw at a glance, even when the gonial angle is unremarkable.

Jaw symmetry. Reported separately because the jaw is the noisiest pair in the mesh and the most affected by head rotation. Check the head-angle grade before reading much into a low jaw figure.

A word on the looksmaxxing framing

A large amount of male face-measurement content online sits inside a framework that treats a facial score as a rank, a rank as a life outcome, and both as fixed. The measurements themselves are usually fine. The framework around them is not: it takes a weak correlate of one social judgement and inflates it into a verdict on a person.

This site publishes the measurements without that framework. There is no ranked scale here that sorts men into tiers, no comparison against other users, and nothing sold on the back of a low number. Questions people ask

Is the male attractiveness test scored differently?
No. The same landmarks, the same measurements and the same thresholds are used for every face. What differs is which measurements tend to be interesting: jaw angle, width-to-height ratio and lower-third proportion carry more of the visible difference between male faces than they do between female ones, so this page explains those in detail.
What jaw angle is considered strong?
Measured from the landmark mesh, most male faces fall between about 125° and 145° at the gonial angle, with lower numbers corresponding to a more sharply defined jaw. This is a measurement, not a target - jaw angle is largely bone, it is set by adulthood, and it does not change with body composition anywhere near as much as jaw definition does.
Does facial width-to-height ratio matter?
It is one of the more studied male facial measures, associated in the literature with perceived dominance rather than with attractiveness. The two are not the same thing and often trade against each other. The test reports the ratio as a number and deliberately does not score it as good or bad.
Is this a looksmaxxing tool?
No. It measures and reports, and that is the end of it. There is no rating scale borrowed from looksmaxxing forums, no ranked tier list, no recommendations, no products and nothing for sale. Will losing weight change my score?
Somewhat, and less than forum lore suggests. Lower body fat sharpens the visible jaw outline, which the landmark mesh does pick up in jaw-related measures. It does not move the underlying bone angle, your facial thirds, or your symmetry. Expect small movements, not a transformation.
Does facial hair affect the measurement?
It can. A full beard obscures the jaw outline, and the landmark model estimates the jawline underneath it, so jaw measurements are less reliable on a heavily bearded face. For the most accurate jaw figures, use a clean-shaven or light-stubble photo.
